Makra’s Alabaster Today
Today, Makra sources its Alabaster from quarries nestled in the heart of Upper Egypt’s mountains, ensuring exceptional quality and durability. Our workshop resides in the Alabaster cluster of west Luxor, where artisans inherit their craft and passion from Egypt’s ancient civilization.
Here’s our meticulous process: one artisan cuts the stones, another shapes them to size, a third engraves intricate designs, a special phase rebuilds detached pieces, and finally, master artisans add their finishing touches.
Health and Sustainability in Alabaster
Choosing Alabaster means embracing health and sustainability. This natural material is non-toxic, lead-free, and does not release harmful chemicals into your surroundings. Its inherent antibacterial and antifungal properties make it a safe and healthy choice for home decor.
A Sustainable Choice
Alabaster isn’t just beautiful; it’s sustainable. At the end of its life, it can be recycled or composted, minimizing environmental impact. Plus, Alabaster’s durability ensures it stands the test of time, becoming a cherished part of your space for years.
Ethical Sourcing and Artistry
Makra is committed to ethical practices at every stage. We source our Alabaster responsibly, collaborating with quarries that share our values. Our artisans are paid fair wages for their exceptional craftsmanship. We also partner with small businesses across Egypt to bring our products to life, further empowering local communities.
